Summary

The Future of Music
That was the difficult subject of the November Conference of the Mexico Section that took place at the White Room of the Lunario at the Auditorio Nacional, being our last conference of the year.
Camilo, Marcello and Bon Lara, three brothers, all of them musicians, with successful artistic projects running in parallel to their also successful professional lives, and all in different areas. Bon takes care of music for films, Camilo is the head of EMI Mexico and Marcello is the head of the most listened Rock & Roll radio station in the city, Reactor 105.7 FM.
Each took their turns explaining us how they see the future of music, starting with a bit of history and finishing with the new Internet technologies and proposals. How musicians have to deal with exposure and promotion, how record companies try to stay afloat and how public radio has a hard time in store with the advent of digital radio. After their presentations were over, a long Q&A session and broad interventions from the audience took place with comments and questions covering different topics on broadcasting (radio and TV), recording, show and film sound, but especially on their views of music distribution, low quality of MP3 distribution and the studio as a tool and how the music industry has been changing its objectives in about 10 years time.
How low quality instruments and recording gear has changed the way artists work and also how these technologies have degraded quality of the final product in many cases.
Before their presentation started, our administrative and financial officers Fernando Roldán and Rodolfo Vazquez took some minutes for showing the membership our finances. Also, Mintel Alonso took his turn with a brief presentation of the 77 conferences we have put together since we started the section's Annual Conference Program in June 2006.
Once again we would like to mention how grateful we are to the director of the Lunario of the Auditorio Nacional, Francisco Serrano, for inviting us to have our conferences in their premises.
Francisco Miranda
Chair
