Summary

Students at Bay State College accompanied by professor Danny Goldfine kicked off their experimental recording series. The focus the first week was drum recording techniques. The first technique was sending a mic directly to a tube amp, and recording everything in real time. Next, we experimented with some "trash" mics around the kit, mixing in various close mics placed by students. The highlight of the night was the rubber hose delay experiment, where a SDC was taped to the end of a garden hose positioned in front of the kit. This created a short 30ms delay, and students moved it around the kit to see how the hose reacted. We spent the rest of the night experimenting with our recorded material, testing students theories on the outcome.
