Summary

The holidays are over, and it's time for a new year and a new semester at Webster University. The school's AES chapter has many hootenannies and shindigs planned for 2017, but first, a recap on how our December went. We were honored to feature a guest lecture on the 9th by two individuals with distinguished audio careers: Dr. Sungyoung Kim and Hiraku Okumura. Mr. Okumura, who works for Yamaha, spoke of the company's advancement in sound design for virtual and augmented reality. Dr. Kim gave a presentation on Technical Ear Training, a subject he has extensive knowledge in, given that he is one of its pioneers. Also on December 9th, we held our final Concert Series performance of the semester. Students were given the chance to use the console to create their own mixes and get some hands-on experience with live sound reinforcement. After a month-long respite during our winter break, we entered 2017 with a full calendar for the spring semester. Events planned for this year include more Concert Series, tours of local audio venues, and of course, our Central Region Audio Student Summit, which will be held from March 24th — 26th. Preparations for this entirely student run event are already in full swing as we work to make this year's Summit even bigger and better than its predecessor. To keep updated on everything that we'll be having at the Summit this year, check out our website from time to time in these coming weeks at www.websteraes.org.
