Summary

The meeting started off at 8pm. The current AES president, Victoria Hebert started us off by going through the upcoming events. After that, she opened up the floor for new ideas. We had a very productive meeting filled with lots of positive ideas for future events. One of the very first ideas was a first cycle advice seminar, happening on first week Thursday nights to help new students, give them advice on what's going on, and how things work (for example; elective hours, cras connect, booking studios, when you get pro tools, and having a short presentation from a student in 11th or 12th cycle with some solid advice). We talked about having a themed Sound Design Competition open to students in every cycle. We had an idea for a Music Theory Presentation/Songwriting Clinic with John Berry and Mark Brisbane. We expanded on the actively recurring idea of having a Student Run Live Concert, once we have a setup crew with the authorization to book out the Live Sound Room at the Gilbert Campus, we will move forward with this idea, and in addition to having confirmed bands for the event, have an Open Mic segment of the evening. A few students at the production meeting then chimed in at the mention of the open mic idea, and expressed their interest in having a karaoke night in the Live Sound Room with fellow students. Moving on with the idea of creating community building events in the Live Sound Venue, we had an idea for a Music Appreciation Event, where students come together to share some of their favorite music, while having the opportunity to network with other CRAS students. Aaron William, the current AES Vice President, then brought up all the different gear builds our student chapter does. A headphone/monitor build was brought up as a new idea, since we've done a variety of microphone builds in the past, this would be similar, but essentially just the opposite. We also had an idea for a Cable Wrapping Competition (Wrap Battle), where we'd divide into teams, and have different competitions based on accuracy and speed, possibly having a few relays all around the idea of wrapping a cable. We'd hope to get some project staff involved with judging the event. We'd of course have a price for the best cable wrap(er) of the evening. It has also been suggested that we finish off the event with a couple rounds of Jeopardy in the same style of teams competing against each other. The meeting was concluded at 9pm.
