Summary

We spent the evening going on a ?eld trip the Harkin Arts Theater to see the
movie Sound City. The movie is a documentary about the famous Sound City recording
studio. Bands from Fleetwood Mac to Nirvana to Tool to Tom Petty made platinum
albums at Sound City. Dave Grohl bought the Neve console that was the center piece of
Sound City and so many great albums when it went out of business. His goal was to
spread the story of the console and the story of the studio itself. The movie is a beautiful
masterpiece based in an era of music that was masterfully recorded in analog. The
movie proves how tape is still a viable way to do things in our industry.
