Dr. Hilmar Lehnert has over 30 years of experience in creating innovative and unique audio products. As the Director of Audio Systems Engineering at Sonos he leads a global team of 40+ engineers in the areas of acoustics, transducer design and manufacturing, psychoacoustic, research, and digital signal processing. He is primarily responsible to make sure that all Sonos products sound awesome.
To ensure optimum Sound Quality the Audio Team at Sonos collaborates with world renowned recording professionals such Beatles producer Giles Martin and a team at Abbey Road Studios in London.
Prior to joining Sonos, Dr. Lehnert held various roles in the Bose Corporation, Chinook Communications and in academia. At Bose he played a key role in developing award winning technologies such as Videostage5™, AdaptiQ™ and key products such as the L1™ portable system and the VideoWave™ entertainment system.
The author of over 30 papers and conference proceedings, Dr. Lehnert holds Ph.D. and M.Sc. degrees from the Institute of Communication Acoustics in Bochum, Germany and is a founding member of the German Acoustical Society. He holds over twenty patents.
When not designing products in the Sonos lab, Dr. Lehnert likes to play bass and guitar with various local bands in the Boston area.
