Abstract
20 years ago, the Compact Disc Digital Audio System was introduced into the market by Philips and Sony. The very first series of CDs were manufactured by PolyGram (now Universal Music) in Hannover-Langenhagen, Germany, in the year 1982. To celebrate this memorable date, we will discuss with the people in this historical event their activities and difficulties occurring during the development and the market introduction, when sophisticated digital technology came into the private domain with the help of consumer electronics.
