The renowned architect Günter Behnisch has created an extraordinary museum for the outstanding collections of the famous artist, photographer and novelist Buchheim (‘Das Boot’). The architecture of the building by itself, in a totally unique setting at the waters edge on the west bank of the lake ‘Starnbergersee’, is already worth a visit.
Next to cultural items from Africa, Bavarian folk-art and arts and crafts from around the world, it is in the first place the extraordinary large and outstanding spectrum of expressionist art, which truly marks the Buchheim collection. Its centerpiece is a collection of famous paintings and graphics of the expressionists, and in particular those of a group of artists called ‘Die Brücke’ (the Bridge), founded in 1905 in Dresden, Germany.
You will familiarize yourself with the collection by a professional German-English guided tour.
Return to München afterwards is via lake ‘Starnbergersee’, where the Bavarian King Ludwig II lost his life.
The cost of the optional lunch is not included in the price of the tour.
