A Graphical Language for Composing and Playing Sounds and Music

Document Thumbnail

Speech sounds can be represented by graphical functions of time specifying formants. A generalization of this graphical representation to other sounds and music is described. Graphical functions of time are used to represent pitch, loudness, and duration. Functions can be drawn with a light pen and oscilloscope. Computer sounds can be synthesized directly from the drawn functions.
