The basic factors relating to continuous tape loop operation are reviewed. These factors include theory of continuous loop operation, definition of loop size and it`s determination, lubrication requirements of continuous magnetic tape and dynamic performance parameters of operating loops. A system design including the cartridge and transport is described which takes into account the foregoing design factors. The system is designed for automotive and home entertainment applications for the reproduction of music.
