MPEG-4 Low-Delay Advanced Audio Coding (LD-AAC) out performs traditional low-delay codecs, such as the ITU-T schemes G.711 or G.722, at the same bit rate. Especially for nonspeech signals, it delivers a better performance at lower bit rates than specialized speech codecs. This paper discusses the selection of a fixed-point DSP platform and describes the effects and the way to be a functional real-time implementation of an AAC-LD codec on Motorola's DSP56300.
