The need for standardised audio file interchange has taken a step forward with the publication in December 1999 of AES31-3, a key component of the scaleable AES31 suite. With sample-accurate timecode and a clear text list it is possible to exchange edited audio openly and without restriction. This simple form of project interchange is independent of transport mechanism and can be used when interchanging physical media or by communicating over a network.
