A New Way of Acoustic Feedback Suppression

Document Thumbnail

A well known problem of sound reinforcement systems is that the gain is limited because of the acoustic feedback between the loudspeaker and the microphone. Normally a feedback stability margin of 6 dB has to be adhered to guarantee that "howling" or "ringing" does not occur. Use of digital signal processing has allowed Philips to develop an algorithm which enables the increase in system gain far beyond the limits of acoustic feedback.
