Building an Audio Wide Area Network

A practical method for linking studios in different parts of the world is described. SONET/SDH and ATM provide a high-bandwidth transmission medium; miniature GPS receivers allow inexpensive, precision time and frequency references; and Universal Time Stamps allow precise phase alignment of real-time audio tracks from different locations. This paper describes how remote studios can effectively operate as one large studio.
