Dynamic element matching (DEM) has been used to increase the spurious free dynamic range of analog-to-digital converters and digital-to-analog converters. This paper will describe the relationships between the DEM networks in the literature and discuss their randomization abilities. A more powerful class of network topologies is introduced which contains several new DEM networks. The advantages and disadvantages of the new class and its networks are also presented.
