Audio Levels in Digital Broadcasting

Document Thumbnail

When freed from the constraints on the dynamic range of audio signals imposed by the analogue environment, broadcasters providing digital services have responded in a number of different ways. Some have continued to radiate programs with a high degree of compression; others have exploited the capability of the digital medium to cope with a wider dynamic range. This paper examines the situation in the UK's digital radio services and presents some ideas for setting program levels.
