The Microphone: Between Physics and Emotion
Some knowledge of physics is necessary in order to use microphones successfully. Music, on the other hand, required emotional involvement. Recording engineers must bridge these two realms without merging them; anyone who makes technical decisions on an irrational basis will soon fall victim to false beliefs. Examples are discussed.
