Sound Source Localization in a Five-Channel Surround Sound Reproduction System

A series of listening tests were performed to investigate the interchannel amplitude and time differences required to generate various phantom image locations in a standard five-channel surround sound playback configuration. This paper describes the test method and presents the resulting data. In addition, potential implications to recording techniques for surround sound reproduction are discussed.
