Recent advancements in audio standards, PC hardware, and operating system architectures have expanded the capabilities of the PC as an audio production platform. As production facilities integrate digital audio workstations into their daily operations, it is important to not only recognize the capabilities and limitations of the PC today as a post production tool, but to also consider the trends and future implications in the evolution of PC based audio. This paper will examine technology trends in the PC industry, including audio standards, data transmission, and processing power.
