The paper presents a detailed description of the EZK algorithm, a version of zerotree quantization developed by the authors, and describes why it provides higher compression than the alternatives. The performance of the algorithm using several alternative transforms is compared, and the incorporation of psychoacoustic modeling is described. Finally, the performance of the codec with some alternatives is compared.
