The question of fit of harmonics to a sinusoidal model is important for quality coding of musical sounds. By characterizing phase relations among the harmonics, a separation of the harmonics into sinusoidal and non-sinusoidal parts is performed. Applying poloyspectral analysis we show that sinusoidality is closely related to frequency but not to phase coupling. We present a bispectral algorithm for frequency coupling sinusoidality detection and derive a simplified algorithm that determines an upper phase coupling cutoff frequency based on kurtosis of the residual signal.
