Intermodulation Distortion in Tape Recording

Document Thumbnail

The causes of intermodulation distortion in magnetic tape recording are discussed. A close correlation exists between harmonic distortion and intermodulation distortion measurements when the individual orders of distortion are measured separately. It is shown that nonsymmetrical input signals can be a source of intermodulation in tape recording. A session is suggested why our ear will tolerate high percentages of intermodulation distortion in music.
