The Early Sound Field in Performance Halls

Document Thumbnail

The early sound field is largely responsible for the perceived liveness in a hall. The best music halls typically have early reflections of approximately the same level as the direct sound. A new analysis and data presentation technique is used to examine the early sound field. The instantaneous sound envelope and integrated sound energy growth are introduced and data is presented for several recently constructed halls.
