A system is described for the automatic optimization of an axisymmetric horn according to user-specified design criteria. The system is based on the finite-element method and the boundary-element method. Optimization is carried out using the weighted random-search method, a simple evolutionary strategy. Comparison between prediction and measurement in a number of cases demonstrates that the system is effective.
