The room-loudspeaker interface and its influence on optimal virtual image recreation are investigated, and a number of popular loudspeaker layouts are compared using psychoacoustics criteria. The superiority of one specific approach is demonstrated, and two techniques using measurement and subjective metrics are described which enhance the precision of phantom sources by fine tuning loudspeaker placement.
