For many years the AES has nurtured the development of international standards for audio engineering practice, promoting and supporting these professional activities as important components in convention and conference events. The paper describes the background and the working principles guiding AES endeavors in this field, the topics currently under study in the meetings of the Standards Committee and its working groups, and the links with other standards bodies.
