A Real-Time, Multichannel Dolby AC-3 Audio Encoder Implementation

A system capable of real-time encoding of multichannel Dolby AC-3 Audio is presented. The system is based on a standard PC platform containing multiple DSP ICs and interface boards for digital audio and SMPTE time code. The software, written primarily in C, consists of AC-3 encoding software running on the DSP network and user interface software running on the host CPU within the PC. The system may be used in laser disc and DVD mastering applications.
