The behavior of rooms at low frequencies is discussed. In particular, the definition of a mode, the modal decay, the asymtotic density of modes in different shaped rooms, and the criterion required for a diffuse field. The effects of diffusion and absorption are analyzed using simple theoretical models, and the strategies for achieving good acoustic performance at low frequencies are presented.
