The "Stereo Dipole": Binaural Sound Reproduction Using Two Closely Spaced Loudspeakers

Document Thumbnail

A system comprising two closely spaced loudspeakers less than 30 cm apart can create very convincing virtual images in front of a single listener. The system uses digital signal processing to reproduce a pair of desired signals at the ears of the listener. The physical principles of the system are explained, and the signal processing technology involved is introduced.
