The DAB Service Multiplex and Support Features

Document Thumbnail

The Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) system supports a multiplex of several services on each broadcast channel and is known as a DAB ensemble. This paper examines the options for exploiting the flexible service multiplex arrangement and describes the system support features which make it easier for a listener to find a service. The features include the provision of control information in a separate fast information channel and a wide range of service information (SI) features. The SI features build on those provided in earlier systems, such as RDS. The ability to control the audio dynamic range in the receiver is one exciting new feature of interest to audio engineers.
