The Boundary-Element Method and Horn Design

A description is given of both the full boundary-element and the "simple-source" methods for predicting the acoustic field external to a vibrating body, together with an outline of the computational difficulties. Results from an axisymmetric code are compared with analytic and measured values in the context of horn design. The use of the boundary-element method in automating the optimizing of the horn shape is illustrated.
