Audio editing systems are increasingly disk-based, whereas origination, mastering or transmission formats are often tape-based. The operational problems of working in mixed format environments are examined and a number of solutions are suggested in a proposal for a more streamlined and unified approach towards audio editing. Particular reference is made to the editing of DAT recordings in broadcast environments.
