A Long-Time Recording Method on MODs for the 20-Bit Digital Audio Editing System

A professional digital audio editing system which records and edits 20-bit digital audio data using typical magneto- optical discs (MOD) is described. In order to record efficiently, 20-bit data is transformed into 16-bit data arrangement in the recording operation and is retransformed into 20-bit data arrangement in the playback operation. The editing system makes continuous recording using up to seven disc drives. The continuous long-time recording using only two drives is also made by exchanging discs. Consequently, the editing operation can be executed efficiently with 20-bit resolution maintained.
