Dithered Noise Shapers and Recursive Digital Filters

Document Thumbnail

Existing dithered-quantizer theory does not apply directly to the case of dithered recursive digital filters (including noise shapers) because the feedback paths return signals which are not statistically independent of the dither signal, if nonwhite. In this paper we show how the theory can be extended to cover this case as well, and in the process we provide conditions which guarantee that such a filter is free of audible distortion, noise modulation, and input-related changes to its noise spectrum.
