The Musical Restoration of the -Joueuse de Tympanon-
This paper describes a new concept for restoring antique musical mechanisms. Having noted static and dynamic readings of the pitch and rhythm, and having recorded the sound, an audio-MIDI processing procedure has enabled the virtual reconstruction, by computer, of the musical performance of the -Joueuse de Tympanon- (a mechanical musician from the 18th century). The studio editing work serves as a guide for the restoration of this mechanical instrument.
