A Fast Method for Measuring the Vibrations of Violins

Document Thumbnail

A method for fast measurements on violins is presented using the advantages of FFT analysis. The violin is excited at the bridge by a hammer with the force F, while the response is measured by an accelerometer on the top plate. The transfer function a(f)/F(f) is calculated and displayed by a two-channel FFT analyzer. The resonances are the maxima of this inertance curve. They show not only the main body resonances of the violin but also the resonances of different parts, such as finger board or tail piece, etc.
