A New Approach to the Design of Control Room Acoustics for Stereophony

Document Thumbnail

The basis of control room acoustic design for stereophony has been the control of discrete reflections by means of sound-absorbing materials. By using nonabsorbent surfaces to direct early reflections away from the listener, it is possible to obtain good stereo image sharpness and make the stereo effect less dependent on the room without making a dead acoustic environment. A prototype room containing a controlled reflection zone has been constructed at the BBC Research Department.
