A system solution has been realized consisting of a single CMOS chip and associated software providing complete audio capabilities for a multimedia enabled computer. Topics covered in this paper include: design tradeoffs between feature implementation in hardware or software, computer performance issues (sound quality and throughput), chip features, and low-cost implementation.
