Preliminary Results of a 20-Bit Digital-to-Analog Converter Using Pulse-Width Modulation

Document Thumbnail

It has already been shown that a 16-bit quality digital-to-analog converter (DAC) using pulse-width modulation (PWM) is possible with effectively zero harmonic distortion. The techniques used to achieve this have been extended to 20 bits. They involve precompensation and noise shaping of the input signal prior to the PWM. The techniques are explained and computer simulations are presented of a 20-bit DAC.
