A linguistic analysis of the nature of language and of mathematics and the problems they pose in attempts to establish communication with extraterrestrial beings of unknown and unseen culture and communication patterns. Conclusion: communication is possible only if two or more types of signal (e.g., TV) can be simultaneously transmitted.
