A One-Dimensional Model of Loudspeaker Enclosures

Document Thumbnail

A model for computing behaviour of a loudspeaker enclosure is presented. The enclosure is assumed to have significant resonances only in one dimension, and thus one-dimensional transmission line model can be applied. The methods for computing the sound propagation in a transmission line, possibly filled or lined with fibrous or porous absorbents are discussed. Also computing the colouration due to diffraction, and using frequency responses measured from a driver as a basis for the computation is discussed. The model can be applied for almost any type of loudspeaker enclosure, e.g. sealed, reflex, coupled cavity, and naturally, transmission line.
