Since no feasible solution existed for a loudspeaker system in a departure hall of an airport that could meet the demands of speech intelligibility and maintenance, an electronically controlled sound column was designed with exceptional properties regarding aiming, lobing, and vertical dispersion. With this column an almost constant direct-to-reverberant ratio is possible over a range from almost zero to more than 30 meters.
