A group of AM and FM broadcast stations decided to build a new broadcast complex in Mexico City, in order to fulfill its actual and future needs. It includes four AM and three FM stations, six recording studios plus one audio center for routing and link transmissions to the broadcast plants, satellite communications, and reception from a number of different locations within the city. The site is located one quarter of a mile from a transmission plant radiating 250 kW. The basic acoustical design objectives were similar for all the rooms; nevertheless, the sizes are all different and so are the furniture and equipment requirements due to different production processes, which influenced the sound behavior within the room. One of the recording studios is being used for recording radio novels. It has all the facilities needed for speech and dialogue pick up, acoustic sound effects, all sorts of electronic effects, and everything mixed through a 20-channel console. Time spent to make a complete novel is normally only about 10% more of the actual duration of the whole novel proving the efficiency of the installation.
