This paper, tutorial in nature, considers three methods of oscilloscopically monitoring and measuring the FCC-approved FM stereo signal to insure not only compliance but also a good quality signal. Advantages and disadvantages are considered for the direct Y-axis connection, pilot synchronized sweep and audio synchronized sweep. A distinction is drawn between monitoring for daily operation and proof of performance measurements considering use of both meters and the oscilloscope.
