The Harmonic Tone Generator, a Voltage-Controlled Device for Additive Synthesis of Audio Harmonic Spectra

Document Thumbnail

A solid-state device has been constructed which generates an audio tone completely defined by its fundamental frequency, the amplitudes of its first six harmonics and second harmonic phase-shift. These parameters are controlled independently by external DC voltages. Hence, properties of musical tones, such as pitch, envelope, and timbre can be accurately programmed to produce a large variety of musical sounds.
