An electrostatic transducer, having a high internal acoustic impedance and fed by rectangular voltage pulses, is the source of acoustic volume velocity transmitted to the measured acoustic impedance Z/ax. The spectrum of the sound pressure pulses p(t) is obtained with an FFT processor. Measurements are taken first on a cylindrical waveguide and then on the unknown Z/ax. the logarithmic difference of the two curves gives the normalized value of Z/ax. Examples are shown for measurements of acoustic impedance and acoustic transfer impedance.
