This report describes the design of an active control room monitor for SPLs in excess of 130 dB(lin). To ensure good sound quality, a new direct radiating midrange system was developed with an acoustic loading technique which shows 103 dB/W sensitivity and 1-kW peak power handling. Power amplifiers and driver unit protection logic are also presented.
