Recording, Editing and CD Mastering Entirely in the DAT Format

Recent advances in Digital Audio Tape (DAT) technology may make this format a practical, cost-effective alternative to existing digital formats for recording, editing, and CD laser mastering. This paper examines the technical considerations involved in an actual project recorded, edited, and mastered entirely in the DAT format, bypassing conventional 3/4-in U-Matic hardware.
