Some current estimates of audio power amplifier requirements for home listening systems are exaggerated. A consideration of preferred listening levels, the acoustic characteristics of rooms, the nature of reproduced sound, especially music, and peak audio power lead the author to conclude that an accurately rated 10-watt amplifier is sufficient for most music listening requirements.
