Application of Non-Linear Dynamics to Digital Effects for Musical Instruments

Document Thumbnail

A new class of digital effects for musical instruments is proposed, which uses non-linear difference equations to process the input signal. Several different non-linear filter structures have been realized, and their properties examined. The -sound- of each device has been subjectively evaluated for non-sinusoidal input signals from various sources including musical instruments. The stability and controllability of the effects have been studied, and useful ranges of control parameters obtained.
